The Outsider In His Own Home Country

Going back to your roots, to where it all began, the feeling of xenophobia and paranoia slowly but surely begins to wrap its grasp all around. It’s a really unique feeling, and not a good one at that…the sense of not knowing who you really are nationally and culturally… how your ancestors came from that far away land and how you connect with it, but when you finally make it there, you are looked at differently. Even if you have that pure relation of blood; the way you talk and gesture is constantly observed, while the cold stares of some gives you that cold sweat, sharply hacking away at your back as you try to shrug it off. Maybe I’m overplaying this…maybe it’s the paranoia talking…but everytime me and my family goes to the Philippines, this is what I’m constantly fighting inside of me when I walk into Metro Manila Airport. More
